Will this splint keep my hand from falling asleep at night?
Sleeping with your wrist bent and your fingers in a fist puts pressure on your wrist and your thumb and first 2 fingers. This pressure is what wakes you up with a numb hand or tingling fingers. The Night Support Braces prevents you from bending your wrist and clenching your fingers into a fist helping to prevent the numbness and tingling.
Will wearing this splint cure my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
How much relief you get from wearing the Night Support Brace depends on how long you have had symptoms and how severe your symptoms are. If you have had symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome for a long time and have numbness even when you are not using your hand, this splint may help but is not likely going to cure your problem. If your symptoms are mild and only happen when you are doing repetitive activities, this is a good choice. Wear this along with a daytime splint to relieve and possibly eliminate the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Tendinitis.
If I wear this splint at night, do I also need a splint during the day?
Recent studies have shown that wearing a splint during the day that limits wrist motion and a nighttime splint that limits both wrist and finger motion is a highly effective way to relieve and possibly eliminate the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Tendinitis. The Night Support Brace and a daytime splint like the Mueller Green Fitted Wrist Brace are recommended as soon as you start to experience numbness and tingling for the best chance of “curing” your condition.
How long do I need to wear this splint?
While it does depend on how long you have experienced symptoms of numbness and tingling, a general rule is to wear the splint until the symptoms are completely gone or for at least 4 to 6 weeks. If you have worn a daytime and a nighttime splint regularly and the symptoms are not significantly or completely relieved after a month or so, it is recommended that you visit your health care provider or a hand specialist for further treatment.
What can happen if the symptoms do not go away even if I wear braces?
Long term pressure on the median nerve in your wrist and hand can lead to permanent loss of feeling in your thumb and first two fingers and to permanent weakness, especially in your thumb muscles. Do not wait to get medical advice for this problem if splinting does not relieve your symptoms. There are very successful options to relieve the pressure with minimally invasive surgical techniques that you can discuss with your health care provider.
